Fire Fly Stables is a riding academy, dedicated to the well being of the horse and rider. We offer lessons for beginner to advanced riders, from children to adults. Our coaches work with riders as individuals and as a team, balancing supportiveness with competitiveness. The combination of learning new skills, achieving goals, and having fun in a safe environment creates a formula for success.

Interested in lessons? Contact Us to learn about current availability and book your spot. We encourage riders to ride at least once a week when they start out: this is a sport, not a drop-in hobby. Riders that want more riding time, extra time with their favourite horse, or preparation for a horse show are encouraged to look at a Coboard package.

Each lesson takes about 2 hours from your scheduled time: 30 minutes to prepare your horse, 45 (private) or 60 (group) minutes of riding, and 30 minutes to untack and clean your space. For your first lesson, please come 5-10 minutes early so we can complete waivers and check that your equipment is suitable. Riders are welcome to come early or stay late, but children at the barn outside of their lesson time are expected to be supervised.
Each rider needs:
– Long Pants: No jeans please! Leggings are great, and we also sell used breeches.
– Boots with a heel of at least 1.5cm: Approximately the width of a finger. We have a small selection of used paddock boots, riding boots, and half chaps if you are interested in purchasing more specialized gear.
– An ASTM approved helmet: Different from a bike helmet. If you don’t have your own, you can rent them from us for $5 per helmet per ride.
– Clothes for the weather: in the winter, our arena and barn are protected from the wind but not the cold.
[Optional] – An apple or carrot for your horse!

Open toed shoes are not permitted in the barn. This applies not just to riders, but also anyone else in the barn.

Fire Fly Stables offers Co-Boarding programs as a way for students to further connect with their horses, and allow for extra riding time, without owning their own horse. Co-Boarding can be especially helpful for students planning to show, or improve quickly in a shorter period of time.
Not all horses are available for this program, and it doesn’t work for every rider, so make sure to check with your instructor before starting co-board. Contact Us

Off-Site Coaching

Off site coaching is available to students with their own horse. Each individual location will have to be determined before booking, gas and mileage fee will apply. Group monthly/seasonly rates still apply for students off-property, if groups are arranged.
