A working student is someone who has signed up for regular (minimum once per week) lessons. From there they can work off additional riding lessons, free rides, or training sessions. How many rides or training sessions you earn depends directly on how much you work.
This program helps you develop proper stable management skills and horse handling techniques, improve your riding, and learn the things you want to learn. Work includes everything from mucking stalls and property management, to grooming tacking and exercising horses, to horse health checks. You work alongside Jenn Bruner, and learn as you go. This position is a good prerequisite for other jobs in the horse industry. Many of our past working students have found employment either with us, or running their own companies in and out of the horse industry.
Testimonial from a past Working Student: “My name is Blair. I was a working student for Jenn Bruner in 2016. I had been a stay at home mom for three years when I applied for the position at Fire Fly Stables, looking for a new educational and purposeful hobby. I learned so much about what riding is all about and stable management during that time. Jenn is one of the most dedicated people I have ever met. Fire Fly Stables has such a great energy and the position eventually led me to employment at Fire Fly Summer Camp. I am so appreciative that I sought and found this position at Firefly. It was a great and memorable experience.”
There is no experience required for this position, but it is treated like a real job; you need to apply, interview, and you can be fired if you are not the right person for the job.
